Please Support our Nurses!

Please join us on August 20th in standing with Minnesota Nurses as they work for a fair contract with Essentia and St Luke's. Community members are invited to join in picketing for a fair contract that raises standards together for recruitment and retention of nurses. Nurses need a safe workplace, appropriate staffing levels, and a healthy work/life balance. Help them to help you and your loved ones by ensuring that they get the care and support that they need! Stand with nurses!

There are two locations for picketing:

St. Luke’s, East 1st Street between 9th Ave East and Nth 11th Ave East

Essentia Twin Ports, East 3rd Street between Nth 4th Ave East and Nth 5th Ave East

Please join us for the 17th Annual Solon-Munger Dinner! This event honors the memory and legacy of former Senator Sam Solon and Representative Willard Munger. It also gives us a good reason to get together and support our fellow DFLers.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Keith Ellison, Minnesota Attorney General

Keith Ellison was sworn in as Minnesota’s 30th attorney general on January 7, 2019.  As the Peoples Lawyer, Attorney General Ellison’s job is to help Minnesotan’s afford their lives and live with dignity, safety and respect.  His guiding values are generosity and inclusion.

From 2007 to 2019, Keith Ellison represented Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he championed consumer, worker, environmental, and civil-and human-rights protections for Minnesotan’s.  

Before being elected to Congress, Attorney General Ellison served four years in the Minnesota House of Representatives.  Prior to entering elective office, he spent 16 years as an attorney specializing in civil-rights and defense law, including five years as executive director of the Legal Rights Center.

Join the DFL community for an evening of good food and good conversation. For those with a taste for sweets, indulge yourself with the annual dessert auction!

League of Women Voters Duluth Pre-Primary City Council and Mayoral Forums

PRE-PRIMARY DULUTH CITY COUNCIL AND MAYORAL CANDIDATE FORUM

Candidates from Duluth’s At-Large race and candidates for the office of Mayor of Duluth will attend. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.

At-Large candidate forum is scheduled from 6:00-7:15 P.M.
Mayoral candidate forum scheduled from 7:30-9:00 P.M.
Tuesday, July 30
Mr. D’s Bar and Grill, Meeting Room, 5622 Grand Avenue, Duluth.

Voters attending the forum have two opportunities to submit questions to the candidates. Audience members will also be able to submit questions during the forum at the event in accordance with forum guidelines.

LWV Duluth offers a means to submit questions in advance on their website, lwvduluth@lwv.org. Please include the name of the forum in questions submitted by email. League of Women Voter policy states that the identity of the persons’ submitting questions is confidential. Any questions submitted by email will remain confidential with all identifying information removed before the event.

The primary election is scheduled for August 13. Check Duluth City Clerk’s office for voter information.

DFL Training Road Show

In an effort to bring our basic organizer skill trainings directly to activists throughout the state, we’re hitting the road for a training tour across MN. We are specifically focusing on greater MN congressional districts and focusing on basic organizing skills, looking at how we can win in 2020, and running through some new tech tools such as our DFL Training Hub (soon to be rolled out!) and answering some basic VAN questions.

The Senate District 7 DFL is proud to be hosting a stop on the Summer training road show, and looking forward to seeing on there!

Duluth’s NAACP is excited to announce our Freedom Fund Dinner and Reception and would like you to be part of it! This year's theme “Moments in the Movement”, focuses on the everyday actions we do that progress us forward as a community. The dinner and art reception is themed to raise awareness of injustices in our society and encourage us to mobilize our communities to work together for change.

The Freedom Fund is the primary fundraising and ceremonial event for NAACP branches across the country. Duluth’s Brach is seeking generous community members and organizations to ensure and support our ongoing work in the community. Your support of this event will demonstrate your commitment to the work of your local NAACP branch.

Hey folks our neighbors in District 11 need YOU! There is a special election to fill the MN State Senate seat for Senate District 11 on February 5th. The seat was recently vacated by Tony Lourey after he accepted the appointment to serve as commissioner of the state Department of Human Services. Let’s keep it BLUE! Stu Lourey won the primary and he needs your help over the next week in getting out the vote! Volunteers are needed to door knock in the Cloquet area and phone bank (make calls to district 11 voters).

Michelle Lee wins DFL endorsement in special election for open District 11 State Senate seat! Primary is Tuesday, January 22nd (tomorrow!)

Michelle Lee has just been endorsed at the Senate District 11 DFL Convention in Barnum. She received 59.6% of the required 60% on the first ballot, after which Stu Lourey conceded and Michelle acknowledged her victory.

Soles to the Polls

The Duluth NAACP along with its community partners located in low voter turnout Duluth precincts are sponsoring a get out the vote nonpartisan festival called “Soles to the Polls.”  

The purpose of the festival is to increase voter turnout and voter participation on Election Day among groups that traditionally are less likely to vote - youth 18-26, low income, the Indigenous community and Communities of Color.  

The Festival will feature co-emcees Edward Moody and Ramona Marozas of CBS 3 News Duluth. The event will have information regarding voter registration, sample ballots, and election information from City of Duluth’s city clerk. Chelsea Helmer will be available to provide voters with the information they need to vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 6. 

Live bands, free food, spoken word, dance performances, free 
t-shirts, children’s activities, door prizes and more will occur throughout the afternoon.

You will enjoy an evening of fun and the opportunity to get that great item at the silent auction. For those with a taste for sweets, indulge yourself with the annual dessert auction! Join the crowd, bring a friend, buy a table’s worth of tickets (8 tickets to a table) and bond with your fellow DFLers.
